Commencing service on August 1, 1983, America West Airlines grew to become the eighth largest carrier in the United States. The story of America West is an interesting one, one born of deregulation and the opportunities spawned by the Valley of the Sun. The story ends with the merger into US Airways in 2005, with the beginning of a new chapter - that of the New US Airways.
