As a more suitable Electra replacement (for smaller airports), PSA ordered the 737-214 and operated a small fleet. First delivered in 1968, the 737-200 became a common sight at Ontario, Long Beach, Fresno, and Stockton. The fleet was also used for the ANA training contract between flights, until a 737 simulator was purchased.
Barkley decided to sell off the 737 fleet, and all were sold between 1974 and 1976 without realizing the superior economics of the 737-200 in cities like Fresno and Stockton. While this move led to fleet standardization, it also caused overcapacity at a time when it was not needed.
