PSA's promotion and marketing department tended to work overtime creating innovative ways to promote the airline. Some of these promotions are shown here. The buttons have all been moved to their own sub-page in the Museum.

In 1982, PSA and Disneyland signed an agreement to make PSA the official airline of Disneyland. To celebrate, PSA repainted one of their last 727s (N555PS) to celebrate this event. I don't personally remember the plane, but I do remember the celebrations at Disneyland in 1984. Somewhere in the archives I have the giveaway album - "Goin' Quackers"

Another promotion for Mickey and PSA...how would you like this mouse in the left seat?

I worked at Disneyland in the mid 1980's, and I worked on the PSA attraction: American Journey's Presented in CircleVision 360. With the collapse of the Bell System, the old "America The Beautiful" attraction in the CircleVision theatre reverted to an unsponsored attraction. Then, PSA stepped up to the plate and became a sponsor of a NEW CircleVision presentation and remodeled theatre. The pre-show area had a huge wall, with a chronology of backlit photos of all of the Flight Attendant's uniforms. There was also a large stage area that presented a show about the history of flight presented by Orville and Wilbur (cartoon characters from the "Rescuers"). We all wore a unique banded collar white shirt with the PSA colors on the collar and the placket. Prior to the movie being started in the main theatre, a single, classy PSA logo played on the screen. Later, the theatre began to show the "Wonders of China", also in CircleVision 360. After PSA was acquired by USAir, the sponsorship reverted to Delta Airlines, as the sole "official airline" of Disneyland and Walt Disney World. And now, today, Delta has even pulled out, and their sponsorship is gone at Disneyland and at Disney World, well they shelled out $12 million bucks to build a dark ride called "Dreamflight", and that is all but just a Disneyworld attraction without Delta.

PSA's logo was also seen at Sea World, which lies very close to the departure path from Lindbergh Field's Runway 27. The Skytower was built in 1969 and carried PSA's logo until the late 1970s, then from 1982 to 1988. Today, the Skytower is sponsored by Southwest Airlines. The PSA Balloon was another promotional tool that flew around the system. This is the cover and backside of a brochure about the balloon. (The inside discusses technical details, and I will not reprint them here.) Some pictures of the balloon in operation can be found on the 1980's pictures page.

Promotions also used toward paper goods. PSA would collect business cards and have them made into baggage tags for their passengers. (Left - a backing for the business card that would be made into a baggage tag, mid-1980s. Below: 1982. Right: 1986)
